Make a Bequest to the CBCA

PLEASE MAKE A BEQUEST TO CBCA

Many people remember the positive difference books had on their lives and their children’s lives, and are keen to help CBCA continue the work of bringing children and books together to nurture a literate, educated and creative Australia.

Here’s how your bequest would make a difference:

  • Promote quality literature to young Australians through the Book of The Year Awards and CBCA Children's Book Week activities
  • support Australian writers and illustrators of children's books through the national awards for the best Australian children’s books and contributions to children's literature
  • support CBCA's advocacy and thought leadership activities as the premier voice on literature for young Australians
  • manage and preserve CBCA's unique collection of illustrations and manuscripts
  • fund education and research programs
  • support the promotion of literature and literacy nationally through CBCA's events program
  • support CBCA's small national office and Board
  • promote greater equity of access to reading through community projects

Bequests which do not restrict the use of monies provide us with the flexibility to meet our needs as they change over time and are extremely valued. All monies are accounted for in annual reporting, and used only in accordance with applicable laws and CBCA policy.

Naturally, looking after your family and friends comes first, but if you'd like to leave a gift in your will to the CBCA after remembering family and friends, here's how.

How to make a bequest:

Types of bequest - there are a few different ways you can include a gift in your will:

  • A residual bequest - a gift of whatever is left of your estate (or percentage of it) after other gifts to family and friends, taxes and debts have been paid. It is the 'residual' that can then be allocated as a bequest to us
  • A pecuniary gift or fixed cash amount - you may give a specific amount of money. This does not allow for changes in your circumstances or for inflation
  • A percentage pledge - choose to leave a percentage of your estate to CBCA

Use the correct wording - to ensure that your gift is received by CBCA. We recommend that you speak with your solicitor to ensure that your wishes are properly expressed, inclusive of the following details:

"... to be used for the general purposes of The Children's Book Council of Australia (ABN: 14009580956), I DIRECT... "

Childrens Book Council of Australia
Level 2, State Library of Queensland
Stanley Place
South Brisbane Queensland 4101

Please inform us of your gift - we would love to know that you have included CBCA in your will so that we can discuss any wishes you may have, thank you personally and invite you to attend events. Please let us know by calling the office on 07 3842 9120 or 1300 365922

Payment - deposit monies into BSB 066 124, account number 10184639

We can't thank you enough for considering the possibility of including CBCA in your will. You can be assured it will make a significant difference. If you'd like to have a confidential discussion with someone about leaving a bequest, please get in touch on 07 3842 9120 or 1300 365922.
